Firozabad situated in western Uttar Pradesh is a famous commercial center. Situated 200 Kilometers from Delhi, Firozabad is famous through out the world for its glass works. The economy of this city is altogether based around manufacturing bangles and other glass products.

Firozabad has been named after a minor Mogul General named Feroze. It is said that Feroze was send by Emperor Akbar to vanquish the thugs and bandits who inhabited this region. The place has been mentioned again during 18th century as a 'Pargana' or sub-division. In 1857, Chauhans of Mainpuri, Jamidar of Chandwar with local Mallahs took active parts in freedom struggle. Famous Urdu poet Munir Shikohabadi too was sentenced to Kala pani by the East India company government. People of this city took part in "Khilafat Movement", "Quit India Movement", and "Namak Satyagrah" and went to the jail during these national movements.

Firozabad is the premiere center of glassware manufacturing in India. Although this town produces a large variety and range of glassware in India, it has become synonymous to Bangles. They come in thousands of designs, patterns and colors and are universally liked.

The ancient name of town was Chandwar nagar that was renamed Firozabad by Akbar The Great. The city is the home to the glass industry since 15th century. At that time, apart from bangles, Jhad-Phanus or Indian Chandeliers was the major produce here. Apart from that, heavily decorated phials of Itra, Scents and other cosmetic products were also made. As time passed, the city started producing items like Bangles, Kangans and Kara etc for the general public.
